Bartschwein Sus barbatus (Muller, 1838)
English: Bearded Pig; French: Sanglier à moustaches; Bahasa-Jawa: Babi = Celeng; Bahasa Sunda: Babi = Bagong; Indonesian: babi janggut, babi putih, babi hutan; Malay: kartu punni; Philippine: Talonon, Bayong, Araba, Ruatang, Babuy, Pagil.
Former distribution: As now. Present distribution: Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Philippines and adjoining Islands; Celebes. Behaviour: Preferred habitat: tropical and secondary rain forests: they are omnivorous and active during the daytime in groups of up to 100. Seasonal migrations are normal. Predators include tigers and leopards. Population status: Stable. This species is rare in Java. Brief notes: Very little known. Hunting methods: Stalking, with beaters, dogs. Subspecies: 2 (probably) 1. Sus b. barbatus Stable. 2. Sus b. oi Malaysia and Rivu Archipelago. Stable.
