Former distribution: In the mountains of Somalia and in eastern Ethiopia.
Present distribution: Northern Somalia and adjacent parts of Ethiopia and the Afar and Issa Territory (Djibuti).

Population status: Endangered. Estimated numbers: 1000 (1905). Recent numbers: No records.

Remarks: The Beira is very little known as to its biology and population status; a survey is urgently needed for the establishment of protected areas, such as national parks or game reserves. Any information would be valuable.
