Former distribution: In the mountains of Somalia and in eastern Ethiopia. Present distribution: Northern Somalia and adjacent parts of Ethiopia and the Afar and Issa Territory (Djibuti). Brief notes: Body weight: 15-25 kg Head and body length: 80-86 cm Tail length: 6-7.5 cm Shoulder height: 50-65 cm Gestation period: No records Maximum age: No records Trophy: Record RW’s: 5 1/2", Somalia, B.P. ROSS HURST. Remarks: The Beira is very little known as to its biology and population status; a survey is urgently needed for the establishment of protected areas, such as national parks or game reserves. Any information would be valuable.
