Former distribution: Arabian Peninsula, Sinai, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, the Farsan and Hanish Islands in the Red Sea. Present distribution: Sinai, southern Arabia, Yemen and the Red Sea Islands Farsan and Hanish. Behaviour: See Sömmering-Gazelle Population status: Endangered. Estimated numbers: No records. Brief notes: Body weight: 25-35 kg Head and body length: 95-105 cm Tail length: 15-20 cm Shoulder height: 60-80 cm Gestation period: 6 months Maximum age: 12 years Trophy: No records. Hunting methods: Protected. Formerly on horseback, and with eagles and falcons. Remarks: The subspecies (3 acc. to HALTENORTH 1977) are not clearly defined and are therefore omitted. (G.g. arabica; Arabian Peninsula, Sinai; G.g. gazella: Palestine and Syria; G.g. muscatensis; Yemen). Decline mainly due to habitat destruction and uncontrolled hunting with motor vehicles.
