Former distribution: As now. Present distribution: From Mexico to central South America and Argentina. Behaviour: Preferred habitat: dense low and mountain forests; actiye by day and at twilight; live alone or in pairs and feed on all kinds of plants, grass, fruits and shoots. They are good swimmers and prefer a habitat close to water. Predators include dogs and pumas. Population status: Stable.
