English: Babirusa; French: Babiroussa; Celebes: Soor, Inisisi, Vlangio, Kalawatan.

Former distribution: Celebes, Sulawesi, Togian Islands, Sula Islands, Buru Islands.
Present distribution: As formerly.
Behaviour: Preferred habitat: rain forests; they feed by day, also at twilight – mostly on fruits, foliage and larvae: living singly or in family groups. Predators are dogs.
Population status: Probably endangered.

Maximum age: Up to 24 years
Trophy: Tusk Record RW’s: 17″, 1903 Celebes, H. VAN SON; average 8″.
Hunting methods: By natives with dogs and pits.
Remarks: Babirusas are officially protected, but still hunted for meat. Adequate protection is granted only in national parks. More information required on distribution and population status.
