Former distribution: Throughout Africa, also present in northern Arabia and Palestine, not in the desert and rain forest regions.
Present distribution: From Senegal west to Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Sudan and Ethiopia; south to Somalia, Kenya, Zaire, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Angola, Namibia and South Africa.
Behaviour: See Hunters Leierantilope
Population status: Extinct in North Africa, Arabia, Palestine and endangered in West Africa and in some East African countries. In all other areas stable. Estimated numbers: no records.
